5 Tips To Ace An Interview

I've recently just changed jobs and there is nothing more scary than the whole interview experience, they really are horrendous.  Personally I'm alright at interviews, when it comes down to it I am able to sell myself quite well (which I'm always really surprised at) so thought I'd share my 5 tips to ace an interview.

1. Be Yourself: Tip numero uno, be yourself, this is so important because if you're not acting like yourself then you're not going to be confident at all.  Or alternatively the interviewer will be able to see right through you and realise that it isn't you.

2. Know Your Stuff: By that I mean research.  Research the company that you are going applying for, research their values and understand them as a brand but also research the job role that you are applying for.  Know it inside out so you don't get any surprises when you get there.

3. Dress Appropriately: Following on from researching the brand, dressing appropriately is also so important and if you get it wrong it can be between you getting the job and not basically.  If you're going for a job in retail then dress fashionably but then if you're going for a job in an office dress slightly smarter either in trousers, a blouse and a blazer or a little dress.

4. Have Questions Prepared: Interviewers will always 100% ask you if you have any questions at the end of the interview so make sure you have some ready.  Do not ask about the wage or holidays or anything like that as everyone asks that and it doesn't make you stand out and it just makes it look like that that is all you are interested in.  Why not ask about the challenges that you would face if you got the job, what their favourite part of the job is or what the progression is like within the company, these kind of questions are different from the norm and makes the interviewer themselves think.

5. Be Positive: Finally be positive! I know it's cliche but if you think positive thoughts and act positive then it will all be ok.  Be positive before, during and even after the interview and you will breeze through.  Even if you unfortunately do not get offered the job, be positive after the experience and the fact that you have another interview under your belt which will only help you with the next one.

I hope these tips have been helpful for you, they always work for me! What are your top tips for acing an interview?
