TRAVEL: Rotorua, New Zealand

Rotorua is located in the North Island of New Zealand and is known for it's rather pungent smell.  It smells of egg and gradually gets worse throughout the day, this is due to the amount of geothermal activity in Rotoura.  The city is filled with geothermal pools which just look insane as they constantly steam and bubble.  It really is a sight to see but just make sure you cover your nose if you're walking through them.

Whilst in Rotorua I visited Te Puia park which is a geothermal Maori village.  There was more geothermal activity where our guide cooked us an egg in one of the pools, pretty cool stuff! There were also geysers that were 30m high, again another awesome sight!

I think Rotorua was one of my favourite places to visit on the Kiwi Experience bus and is well worth stopping there for a couple of days as there is so much to see.

Have you ever visited Rotorua?
